French presidential campaign heats up

Nicolas Sarkozy and socialist challenger hold Paris rallies with Francois Hollande clear favourite in polls.

    French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Socialist challenger Francois Hollande have stepped up their election campaigns by holding huge - and near simultaneous rallies - in rival districts of Paris.  

    Opinion polls show Sarkozy on course for defeat after a single term in office.
