Catalonia mulls bullfighting ban

Catalan parliament set to vote on whether to ban the favourite Spanish sport in the region.

The Catalan parliament in Spain is voting on Wednesday whether to ban bullfighting in their region.

This quintessentially Spanish pastime is already banned in the Canary Islands where animal rights campaigners had triumphed to ban the sport.

But for many Catalans, the move against bullfighting is not just about cruelty to animals, but also about asserting their identity.
