India mulls forming new state

The possible formation of new state within Andra Pradesh sparks huge debate.

A committee considering whether to split the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has submitted its report to the interior ministry in New Delhi for consideration.

The recommendations will be made public in one week.

If the committee agrees, Andhra Pradesh will be split, and a new state - Telangana - will be formed, covering what today is northern Andhra Pradesh.

Al Jazeera's Sohail Rahman reports from the state's largest city, Hyderabad.
