Bachelet praises citizens after Chile quake

President applauds the response of emergency services and public as powerful earthquake claims only a few lives.

    Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has praised her fellow citizens for their response to Tuesday's earthquake.

    Nearly a million people heeded a government warning to leave low-lying ground over tsunami fears.

    The magnitude 8.2 earthquake and tsunami hit the northern coast of Chile, near the port of Iquique, killing at least six people.
