US touts breakthrough in clean-energy science

California researchers produced more energy out of fusion than was contained in fuel used to create the reaction.

Scientists in the United States say they are a step closer to producing a form of energy that would be clean, non-radioactive and abundant.

In an experiment using nearly 200 powerful lasers, scientists at California’s Lawrence Livermore lab produced more energy out of fusion than was contained in the fuel used to create the reaction.

Al Jazeera’s Rob Reynolds reports.
