Winter storm blankets parts of US

Some areas of the country could see as much as 36cm of snow on Friday.

    Heavy snowfall and freezing conditions have hit parts of the US, prompting New York's governor to declare a state of emergency.

    Some major highways have been shut, schools have been closed and thousands of flights have been cancelled.

    More than 36cm of snow have been forecasted for Friday in some areas.
