Candomble rituals held amid papal visit

Candomble rituals in Brazil were illegal until believers fused their religion with some Catholic beliefs and traditions.

    Pope Francis is due to hold mass in the Brazilian city of Apar-e-cida later on Wednesday.

    But in another part of the country, many people practise a unique faith, blending their ancient African beliefs with Catholicism.
