Ryan ‘tapped’ as Romney’s running mate

US Republican set to announce conservative Wisconsin representative as his choice for vice presidential running mate.

Mitt Romney, the Republican US presidential candidate, is expected to announce congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, US media has reported.

Ryan built his reputation with aggressive plans for cutting the country’s deficit by dramatically chopping federal spending.

He is a socially conservative Catholic who is pro-life and opposes same-sex marriage, but he is less confrontational than others with the same views.
