Recent figures show that for every dollar President Barack Obama’s supporters spend, Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s lay down eight.
Romney raised more than $100m in June, a new record for his conservative party.
Obama’s Democrats hoped to raise more than $1bn this election, but their Republican rivals could top even that.
