Year after Brazil dam collapse, effects of contamination remain
The 2019 mining dam collapse in Brumadinho killed 270 people and sent a wall of toxic mud and debris into the surrounding land.
Last year, a dam operated by a Brazilian mining company collapsed, contaminating the Paraopeba River with high concentrations of iron ore waste.
The collapse of the dam produced nearly 12 million cubic metres of toxic mud.
One year after the accident, environmental activists say the effects of the contamination are far from over and people are getting sick.
Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Brumadinho.
