Native Hawaiians block construction of telescope on Mauna Kea

Its construction has been delayed for years due to protests and legal battles.

Native Hawaiians call this dormant volcano Mauna Kea, and many consider it sacred.

Only high-ranking chiefs and priests are allowed to climb it.

Now, Native Hawaiian protesters are blocking the construction of a billion-dollar telescope on this sacred land.

But the state’s governor has signed an emergency proclamation granting police the power to clear the site.
