Student activists’ role in Armenia’s ‘Velvet Revolution’

Many Armenians are saying their so-called ‘Velvet Revolution’ succeeded because people finally shed their political apathy and were inspired to act.

Armenia‘s parliament is expected to elect opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan as the country’s new prime minister on Tuesday.

It follows a wave of protests in which student activists have played a major role.

Some of them told Al Jazeera the priority is for the new government to hold free and fair elections, which would be a first for this generation.
