Colombia: Right-wing parties opposed to FARC deal lead vote
Results show a resurgence of right-wing parties opposed to the peace deal that allowed former FARC rebels to legally participate in politics, putting at risk the implementation of the already fragile agreement.
Right-wing political parties, critical of the 2016 peace deal with the Revolutionary Alternative Forces of the Commons (FARC) rebels, have performed strongly in Colombia’s congressional election.
It is the first election allowing FARC members to run.
The polls serve as a preview for presidential elections in May, and a strong right-wing showing could put the peace deal at risk.
