The lawyer for social media giant Facebook has admitted the company should have done more to pick up on Russia-linked meddling in last year’s US election, but emphasised that it represented a very small portion of News Feed content.

Twitter and Google also faced questioning at a senate hearing into Moscow’s alleged cyber influence on the vote.

Senators were eager to find out when the companies became aware that content linked to the Kremlin was appearing on their platforms, and what could be done to stop it from happening again.
