Victor Gao, the former translator for Deng Xiaoping who is known for opening communist China to the world market, says he does not doubt China can achieve an eight per cent growth in 2009.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Gao admits he has concerns over whether the stimulus, most of which is to be spent on infrastructure, will generate enough return.
