The Israeli separation wall through the West Bank cuts to the heart of the Palestinian-Israeli issue.
Israel considers the wall to be a security barrier while the Palestinians complained that the wall’s route did not follow the 1948 borders and was tantamount to a land grab, taking Israel to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
On July 9 2004, the World Court issued a non-binding ruling that the wall was illegal, but nothing has stopped it. The Israeli government, citing its success in stopping suicide bombings, vows to finish the 700km project within a few years.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Palestinians remain stranded on the Israeli side of the barrier, and many villages have been split in two or nearly encircled.
Riz speaks with Dov Weisglass, an adviser to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who began construction on the wall in 2002, and Professor Norman Finkelstein, an American political scientist who is a vocal critic of Israeli policies.
