Bamiyan, Afghanistan – Afghanistan has few women in sport, but a group of them in Bamiyan are training for the country’s women’s cycling team.
These women hope to be able to compete on the international stage in a few years.
But there exist hurdles these girls must cross in order to achieve that aim.
“Some mullah said it is shame for women to ride bikes – it is shame, this [is] bad for our society,” Zakia Mohammadi, a cycling trainer, told Al Jazeera.
