Dodgers’ Kershaw equals win record
LA Dodgers’ pitcher produces ten strikeouts against San Diego to seal his record-equalling 15th win in the MLB.
Los Angeles pitcher Clayton Kershaw moved into a tie for the most wins in the majors this season, notching victory number 15 as he led the Dodgers to a 2-1 win over San Diego, maintaining the team’s 3-1/2 game lead atop the National League West.
Kershaw (15-3) allowed one run in eight innings and produced ten strikeouts to tie with Johnny Cueto, Wily Peralta and Adam Wainwright on 15 wins.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Angels, opened a two-game lead in the American League West by beating Boston, while Detroit slipped 1-1/2 games off the AL Central summit by losing at Tampa Bay.
The Angels won 2-0 at Boston to complete a four-game sweep of the Red Sox.
Detroit’s David Price gave up only one hit in his first start against his former team, but that first-inning RBI triple by Brandon Guyer was enough for Tampa Bay to edge the Tigers 1-0.
