Anton Khudobin stopped 26 shots and left winger Jeff Skinner notched his team-leading sixth game-winning goal as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-1.

Right winger Alexander Semin scored into an empty net with 1:04 left to seal it for Carolina with his 13th goal of the season as the Hurricanes (25-20-9) improved to 11-4 in their last 15 games.

The New York Rangers beat the New York Islanders for the second time in three days, recording a 4-1 win at Madison Square Garden after they had defeated their closest rivals 2-1 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

The Rangers scored three times in the third period with goals from Derick Brassard, Brad Richards and defenseman Ryan McDonough, who added an empty-net goal as time expired, to drop the Islanders to 21-28-8.

Right winger Patrick Eaves scored the only goal of a seven-round shootout to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.

Left winger Drew Miller and defenseman Danny DeKeyser and right winger Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit in regulation.

Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 26 shots in his first game back after being out for three games with a knee injury.

Penalty shootout win

Right winger Alex Ovechkin and left winger Jason Chimera both had a goal and an assist and center Casey Wellman also scored for Washington.

Defenseman Shea Weber’s second goal of the game at 1:29 of overtime gave Nashville a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils at sold-out Bridgestone Arena.

Weber, who scored Nashville’s first goal at 6:45 of the first period, fired a wrist shot past goaltender Cory Schneider, moments after Predators goalie Carter Hutton stopped right winger Michael Ryder on a breakaway for his 24th, and most important, save of the game.

Right winger Devin Setoguchi’s second goal of the game with just under three minutes left in the third period lifted the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Setoguchi fired his ninth and 10th goals of the year past Canucks goalie Eddie Lack, the second coming off a tremendous cross-ice pass from blue-liner Jacob Trouba at 17:04.

The Jets (26-25-5) pulled to within six points of the Canucks (27-20-9) for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
