Thailand take futsal gold in SEA Games

Thailand women retain their futsal title after beating Vietnam 5-0 in the final at the SEA Games.

Defending champions Thailand crushed Vietnam 5-0 in the final of the women’s futsal event as the 27th South East Asian Games headed into its final weekend on Friday.

Thailand took the lead less than two minutes into the match when Vasinee Pakthongchai opened the scoring. 

Thailand doubled the advantage with just under six minutes to go before the interval and followed that up witha  third early in the second half.

With another two goals before the final whistle, Thailand were able to retain their crown with ease. 

Meanwhile, tournament favourites Malaysia beat Thailand 6-1 to win gold in the women’s field hockey event.

In other sports, hosts Myanmar raced to victory in the men’s five crew 500-meters with a time of 1:55.895.

Thailand won silver in 2:03.021 while Indonesia finished third in 2:03.051.

Myanmar also won gold in the women’s five crew 500-meters with the hosts winning easily in 2:15.713.

Indonesia finished second and Singapore took home the bronze medal.

Myanmar have won 12 of the 14 golds available in the traditional boat events with a chance to add three more on Saturday.
