World champion Sebastian Vettel once again got the better of Red Bull teammate and rival Mark Webber and qualified in pole
position for the US Grand Prix.

Webber appeared set to earn his third pole in the past four races on Saturday until Vettel lapped the Circuit of the Americas in 1 minute, 36.338 seconds on his last run.

Romain Grosjean of Lotus will start third Sunday and Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg will be fourth.

If Vettel wins on Sunday, will set a Formula One single-season record, with eight consecutive victories.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow,” Vettel said, according to the BBC.

“If you have the chance to win you want to go for it. Everything came together today and we’ll see how it goes.”

Webber is running out of time to beat a teammate who has spoiled his best chances for victory this season.

There are just two races left and Webber is leaving Formula One to drive for Porsche in the world endurance championship
in 2014.

“Sometimes you’re happy you’ve done your best and sometimes you’re not,” Webber said, the BBC reported.

“Seb put all his sectors together. I put two and a half together and just dropped it in the last sector. That’s the way it goes sometimes.”

Lewis Hamilton, the 2012 winner, qualified fifth.

Vettel finished second  in last year’s US Grand Prix, after a scrap with Hamilton.

“I’ve not regrets about last year,” Vettel said, according to the Mail Online.

“It was a tight battle with Lewis in the end. He was a bit quicker, we had a hard time to stay ahead, and the way he passed was not the nicest way with traffic.

“But I like this circuit, and things are looking good as we did the job right. We’re in the right place, and when that happens you want to win.”
