Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association on Wednesday over an alleged obscene gesture he made toward Fulham fans.

Suarez, who is already being investigated by the FA over an allegation he racially abused Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, was photographed walking from the pitch following Monday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat in west London with his middle finger raised, apparently at the home supporters.

The FA said the Uruguay international has until 1600 GMT next Monday to respond to the charge.

Birmingham defender Stephen Carr was banned for one match last season over a similar incident involving fans of local rival Aston Villa, while Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton was warned about his future conduct for an insulting gesture toward Liverpool’s Fernando Torres.

Suarez was charged last month with racially abusing Evra, who is black, during a match on October 15. That case has not yet been resolved.

The FA also charged Liverpool on Wednesday “with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.”

Liverpool players harangued referee Kevin Friend over his decision to send off midfielder Jay Spearing for a dangerous tackle on Mousa Dembele.
