All eyes on Qatar for Asian Cup
The Gulf state’s successful bid to host World Cup 2022 means it will come under scrutiny at the Asian Cup in Doha.

As the Asian Cup prepares to kickoff in Qatar, the eyes of the world are on the Gulf state thanks to its successful bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Asian Cup organising committee spokesman Issa Mohammed Al-Ishaq tells Al Jazeera that the pressure to deliver is “normal” despite the added attention, while national coach Bruno Metsu believes Qatar can go on to develop a world-beating team.
Qatar’s first hurdle is Uzbekistan, whom they face in Group A after the opening ceremony at Doha’s Khalifa Stadium on Friday, January 7.
