Fabio Capello will remain as England coach despite his team’s woeful performance at the World Cup.

More foreign blood was meanwhile being injected into the English Premier League as Manchester City signed Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure on a five-year deal on Friday.

Capello’s future had been in doubt since the 4-1 defeat by Germany in the last 16 on Sunday but after a meeting of the Club England Board it was unanimously agreed that he would continue in charge.

“We are all still extremely disappointed at our performance in South Africa, and we believed it was important that we took some time to reflect on everything in a calm and considered manner back in England,” Club England chairman Dave Richards said on the Football Association’s website.

“After fully discussing our performance we remain convinced that Fabio is the best man for the job.”

Toure’s move comes two days after the capture by City of Valencia winger David Silva.

Toure, who played for Cote d’Ivoire in the World Cup before being eliminated in the group stage, joins his brother Kolo in Roberto Mancini’s Eastlands squad.

Spanish media reports said Silva joined City for around $59.11 million.

Never Evra

Following France’s own awful World Cup campaign, former skipper Lilian Thuram said captain Patrice Evra must never play for the team again.

Evra led a player revolt in South Africa, losing the captain’s armband and his place in his starting lineup for his role in the decision by the players to boycott a training session in support of Nicolas Anelka, who was sent home for insulting coach Raymond Domenech.

“I asked the federal council (of the French Football Federation) to sanction the players heavily,” FFF member Thuram told reporters after a meeting of the ruling body in Paris.

“For instance, the captain, Patrice Evra, must never be called up again,” added Thuram, who won a record 142 caps for France and was a member of their 1998 World Cup-winning squad.

Earlier on Friday, Laurent Blanc was officially appointed Domenech’s replacement as France coach with the mission to restore the team’s pride after their disastrous World Cup showing.
