Italian top flight side Udinese have fired coach Pasquale Marino and named former Torino boss Gianni De Biasi as his replacement, the Italian Serie A club announced.

The side from the north-eastern city of Udine had made a decent start to the campaign under Marino, who had been in charge of the side for two years.

However results soon fell away and Udinese now lie five points above the drop zone having lost half of their 16 games.

The 53-year-old De Biasi has been out of work for a year after being sacked by Torino.

All change

“Udinese announce that Pasquale Marino has been relieved of his duties as coach.

“Udinese also announce the appointment as coach of Gianni De Biasi,” a statement read on the club’s website.

Udinese’s home game with Cagliari was postponed on Sunday and club bosses, who are used to the side pushing for European places, have decided to act now and give De Biasi time to shape his squad during the two-and-a-half-week winter break.

Marino became the ninth Serie A coach to be sacked this season.

De Biasi, who also managed Spain’s Levante and was sacked by Serie B Torino last year, will have Serie A top scorer Antonio Di Natale to rely on.
