Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram has received an invitation for a trial with Manchester City, according to a statement on the player’s own official website.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who was second runner-up in the 2007 Asian Player of the Year voting, will undergo a 10-day trial with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side after receiving the green light from his Abu Dhabi-based club Al Ain for the trial.

“After receiving an invitation to undergo a 10-day trial with Manchester City, Al-Ain’s administration has given the green light to Nashat Akram to go ahead and travel to England,” said the website of the former Al Shabab player.

“Akram will be heading to England in the upcoming days,” added the website.

Akram will be the second west Asian player to trial with Manchester City this week as AFC Player of the Year and Saudi Arabia skipper Yasser Al Qahtani travelled to Manchester last week to trial with the team.
