Former world number one Roger Federer has pulled out of the Madrid Open, according to the organisers.

Federer's withdrawal comes two days after Novak Djokovic opted to skip the tournament after being unable to shake off an arm injury.

Federer will be replaced in the main draw by Lukas Kubot, added the organisers.
