Varlamov's efforts shut out the Blues

Goal-tender Semyon Varlamov returns from a six-game absence to make 26 saves as Colorado beat St Louis 5-0 in the NHL.

    Right winger Jarome Iginla and left winger Alex Tanguay had a goal and an assist each as Colorado Avalanche blanked St Louis Blues 5-0.

    Goal-tender Semyon Varlamov returned from a six-game absence to make 26 saves for his second shutout of the season and 15th of his career. Centre Ryan O'Reilly also had a goal and assist for the Avalanche, winners of three in a row.

    Elsewhere, centre Vincent Lecavalier scored an insurance goal in the third period as Philadelphia Flyers beat Minnesota Wild 5-2.

    Defenseman Andrei Markov and right winger Brendan Gallagher scored less than six minutes apart in the second period to lift Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders.
