Platini guest of honour in Gibraltar

UEFA President Michel Platini visits Gibraltar to watch Lincoln Red Imps qualify for next year’s Champions League.

UEFA President Michel Platini was welcomed as guest of honour by a marching band at the Rock Cup final in Gibraltar.

Following their acceptance into UEFA, Gibraltar’s domestic teams are now able to compete for a place in the Champions League through the Gibraltar Football Association’s premier football competition.

It is Platini’s first visit to the British overseas territory since it joined the UEFA football family. He refused to speak publicly about the visit in a possibly political move given Spain’s opposition to Gibraltar’s UEFA membership.
