Broersen takes pentathlon gold

    Dutch Nadine Broersen won the women's pentathlon gold at the World Indoor Athletics Championships at Sopot.

    Broersen racked up 4,830 points from the five disciplines of 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m.

    "My head is like a rollercoaster," said the 23-year-old who only started combined events in 2009. "It was a hard competition. These are tears of joy in my eyes."

    Canada's Brianne Thiesen Eaton, with American husband Ashton Eaton simultaneously competing in the men's heptathlon, took silver with 4,768pts, and Ukraine's Alina Fodorova bronze (4,724).

    In the men's shot put final, Ryan Whiting from the US bagged gold with a throw of 22.05m while German David Storl took silver and Poland's Tomasz Majewski won bronze.
