An Unsuitable Boy

Can 33-year-old Rajesh find love online? His parents hope so – but he’s not so sure.

Watch part two

Director: Rajesh Thind

Rajesh Thind is 6ft tall, 33-years old, and holds a master’s degree. He would appear to be a highly eligible bachelor, a “good catch”. The problem is, he has avoided being caught.

Remaining unattached might be acceptable behaviour in some societies. But Rajesh’s family are from the Punjab, in India. The idea of not marrying is not an option.

Rajesh’s parents met each other via a personal advert in the local newspaper. It was the kind of arrangement that families like his could expect in that day and age.

They long for Rajesh to find someone to marry, to have children with and, by the way, be in love with. But Rajesh is trying to find his own way in life as well as love.

As with so many of his generation, it is just not so easy to meet people any more. There’s still a bit of a stigma about advertising that you’re looking for love, even though so many people have always done it this way.

This highly intimate film follows Raj as he confronts his demons about finding the woman of his dreams, and wonders what she might think of him trying to look for her online.
