Indians in uproar as religious four-day ban on slaughter of cattle and sale of meat set to take effect.

A four-day ban, starting Thursday, on the sale and slaughter of meat in the Indian city of Mumbai has citizens in an uproar, with many using #Banistan and #MeatBan on Twitter. The ban follows a demand from the vegetarian Jain community who will observe a religious fast for eight days. Many say this is communal discrimination, while officials from the Jain community argued their religion prescribes non-violence to all living beings.
