“Swarm” of migrants comment lands Cameron in trouble over #CalaisCrisis

As thousands try to seek refuge in Britain, UK residents debate their government’s response.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron came under fire on Thursday after he referred to the migrants in Calais, France as a “swarm“. Thousands of migrants have been trying this week to enter the Channel Tunnel overnight from France to reach the UK. A young Sudanese man was the latest casualty when he was hit by a lorry, according to reports. Cameron said Britain would not be a “safe haven” for migrants entering illegally, and reassured citizens going on holiday would be “safe and secure”.

The UK government said they are working closely with French authorities to address the situation. Reactions online, however, are mixed when it comes to how the UK should respond to the crisis at their doorstep.
