Indian minister calls Delhi rape ‘small incident’

#BigMinisterSmallRape trends as many criticise Arun Jaitley for what they deem insensitive remark about 2012 gang rape.

India’s finance minister is under fire for referring to a rape in New Delhi as “one small incident” that harmed the country’s tourism.

Speaking at a tourism ministers’ conference Thursday, Arun Jaitley member of the ruling BJP, said the rape incident “advertised world over is enough to cost us billions of dollars in terms of global tourism”.

Many took his remarks as a reference to the 2012 Delhi gang rape of “Nirbhaya”, a physiotherapy student who was attacked on a moving bus in the Indian capital. She died a few days after the attack.
