Student’s death sparks demand for hazing crackdown in Philippines

Twitter users mark 18 year-old’s death with calls to #EndFraternityRelatedViolence.

A Filipino university student’s death allegedly during a fraternity initiation has caused outrage around the Philippines.

Guillo Cesar Servando, an 18 year-old student at Del La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, was allegedly killed during hazing rituals for the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity on Saturday. The cause of Servando’s death is not yet clear. Three other students were reportedly injured during the initiation. 

Police are investigating Servando’s death and the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity says it is conducting an internal investigation.

As Servando was laid to rest on Wednesday, Twitter users across the Philippines called for an end to hazing using #EndFraternityRelatedViolence and #JusticeForGuilloServando:
