Police in Hamburg, Germany have significantly reduced the size of a so-called “danger zone”, created in central part of the city to maintain security after hundreds were injured in recent riots over gentrification. The reduction of the zone was made following protests both online and on the streets. Police enforcement of the area, known as “Gefahrengebiet” in German, has also been reduced to between 6PM and 6AM.

Multiple protests have occurred since the zone was established on Saturday. Several activists were reportedly detained during a “spontaneous demonstration” on Sunday inside the zone. And on Wednesday night, police clashed with hundreds of protesters, some reportedly throwing stones at officers.

Online protests against the danger zone spread further on Thursday, as the hashtag #WirSindAlleHamburg (“We are all Hamburg”) trended across Europe.
