Riz Khan - Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia 1
One on One

Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia

Meet one of Europe’s most interesting royals.

Watch part two

This week on One on One, Riz Khan hears the remarkable story of one of Europe’s most interesting royals.

Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia – now of Serbia – was born in exile, at the famous Claridges Hotel in London, but Winston Churchill made the hotel suite Yugoslavian soil for the day so he could still have a claim to the throne.

The Prince did not get to Belgrade until 1991, as Yugoslavia was breaking up through a bloody and brutal civil war, and he did not get his citizenship back for another decade.

His family’s struggle makes a compelling story, particularly as the prince has finally returned home, reclaimed his palaces, and is looking to unite his people at a very difficult time.
