‘I try to fuse the jazz style with Tunisian culture.’

“I’ve been in love with music ever since I was young. I discovered the guitar when I was 15. I loved it and learnt how to play.

Like many other young people at the time, I started playing rock ‘n’ roll. In Tunisia, we were able to form small bands and play in hotels.

Later, I moved to Europe to continue my studies. And it was there that I discovered jazz music. I started to study it.

Later on, I began composing my own melodies, trying to fuse the jazz style with the culture of the country I am from, with Tunisian music.

As a musician from Tunisia, from the Mediterranean, I consider music as the melody that feeds me.

The first thing I look for in music is the melody. For me, jazz is basically melody, then harmony. Others believe it should be harmony first then melody. But melody is the first thing I look for in music.”
