Grizzly bear emerging from hibernation caught on video

This grizzly bear was captured emerging from hibernation as the world goes into isolation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A groggy grizzly bear emerging from hibernation has become an internet darling after the remarkable moment captured on camera went viral.

The video also shows the elated reaction of the manager of a grizzly refuge in the Canadian Rockies.

“Eight years it took me to catch this moment,” says Nicole Gagnon in the video.

The clip has been seen nearly 450,000 times on Twitter, as people seek distractions from the coronavirus pandemic.

Born in the wild, Boo the grizzly lives alone at the Grizzly Bear Refuge, a 20-acre enclosure on the property of the Kicking Horse ski resort near the town of Golden, British Columbia.

The log cabin den where Boo sleeps every winter, which is buried under two metres of snow (6.6 feet), is also a makeshift laboratory to allow researchers to study bear hibernation.
