Christmas now an official holiday in Sudan

Christmas declared an official holiday in Muslim-majority Sudan for the first time since 2011.

Muslim-majority Sudan declared Christmas an official holiday this year for the first time in almost a decade.

Sudan's previous government stopped recognising Christmas after predominantly Christian South Sudan gained independence in 2011.

A transitional government took over in Sudan earlier this year after months of political turmoil.
