Israel is carrying out its largest maneuvers in years.

The drills included a test of the preparedness of Israel to withstand an attack on its urban centres with non-conventional weapons and even drills on urban war fare.

On the other side, Unifil has detected a marked increase in the movements of Hezbollah fighters, and a movement of positions.

Across the border, the Syrian defence ministry announced that it is forming a task force to “combat” natural disasters.

Inside Story asks what the real objectives of the latest drills are, and whether Israel is preparing for another possible confrontation with its neighbours.
