Opponents of Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistani president, are claiming a convincing victory in Pakistan’s elections.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Q, the main party backing Musharraf, has conceded defeat.

The Pakistan People’s Party of Benazir Bhutto, the slain former prime minister, and the party of another former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-N, appear to have shared most of the votes.

Sharif has called for the opposition to unite in a coalition government to oust dictatorship from Pakistan forever.

What will the new government look like? Where do the results leave Musharraf? And what mark will the elections make on the future of Pakistan?

Inside Story scrutinises the details with presenter Kamahl Santamaria.
