Lisbon summit outcome

80 European and African leaders sign pact promoting free trade and democracy.

80 European and African leaders conclude a two-day summit in Lisbon by signing a pact promoting free trade and democracy. The summit is labeled as a “partnership between equals” to replace the old pattern of donor states scattering their wealth among developing countries.

Can it be a partnership between equals despite the disparity or is Europe forced to change its approach to resourceful Africa because of competition from China and other Asian countries?

We also discuss the thorny issues between Europe and Africa and look at the possible solutions based on a new European approach.
