Blood on our Side: Mexico’s Forensic Investigators

Under inspection, a forensic investigator leads her unit to crime scenes in one of Mexico’s most violent cities.

In the city of Juarez, Ana Gonzalez works day in and day out picking up fragments of bullets, glass and samples of blood.

The work is relentless and emotionally exhausting, compounded by cartel violence that comes from being a Mexican city so close to its neighbour, the United States.

As Gonzalez grapples with the sheer volume of homicides in one of the region’s deadliest cities, she and her team undergo a special departmental inspection.

If they pass, Gonzalez’s team will receive crucial support from the US government to help them with their investigations.
