#OpNimr: Anonymous fight to stop execution of Saudi youth
Hacktivist group targets Saudi sites in a push to help activist sentenced to death.
The hacktivist group Anonymous has joined the fight to halt the execution of a Saudi youth activist, allegedly hacking Saudi government websites. Ali al Nimr was arrested in 2012, at the age of 17, for participating in anti-government protests. He was sentenced to death last May, after a trial activists call “deeply flawed”, and is awaiting King Salman’s ratification of his death sentence. Nimr is the nephew of Nimr al Nimr, a prominent Shia cleric who also received a death sentence after his role in the country’s 2011 protests.
Activists claiming to operate under the Anonymous hacktivist group posted a video announcing the start of #OpNimr and calling for support on social media.
