Russians fly paper planes to commemorate flight MH17
#PAPERBOEING campaign remembers the 298 who died on flight shot down over Ukraine last year.
One year after flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine, killing 298 people (at least 173 of whom were Dutch), Russian website Open Russia called on people to pay their respects.
The site instructs people to make paper airplanes with the names of the victims and leave them outside the Netherlands Embassy in Moscow, Russia. Those who can’t make it to the embassy were asked to take a selfie with their plane and tag it with #PAPERBOEING.
Organisers also broadcasted a livestream from the embassy showing people taking part. Some, however, argue this form of commemoration could be considered insensitive to the victims and their families.
