#RIPMzeeOjwang: Kenyans mourn comedian who bridged ethnic divide

Actor played character from rival ethnic group.

Kenyans are mourning the passing of comedian Benson Wanjau, known by many as Mzee Ojwang, who died on Sunday in Nairobi.

Wanjau was famous for his portrayal of a character from Kenya’s Luo ethnic group in the show Vitimbi, though he was actually from a Kikuyu background. Many say his depiction of a member of another group was a symbol of ethnic unity for Kenya.

Kenyans posted using #RIPMzeeOjwang and #MourningMzeeOjwang to celebrate Wanjau’s life and career.
