Turkish women turn backs to Erdogan with #SırtımızıDönüyoruz

Twitter users mock Turkish president for his jab at women protesters.

A group of Turkish women turned their backs in protest at President Tayyip Erdogan’s passing campaign bus, Turkish media reported. The move angered the president, who struck back at the women in a political rally on Monday.

“I beg your pardon, but they have all turned their well-known backs while we were passing by [an election] coordination center. Of course, my decency does not permit me to tell you what [this move] means”, Erdogan said. “If you have a modicum of politeness, honor and ability, then the place for politics is Parliament.”

Outraged at Erdogan’s comments, Turkish women shared photos of their turned backs with #SırtımızıDönüyoruz, or “we are turning our backs”. The hashtag has been used more than 127,000 times on Twitter.
