Ramadan ‘hypocrisy’ blog ignites uproar in South Africa’s Muslim community

Blog post reportedly denounces Muslims who judge those less observant of Ramadan.

A South African fashion blogger’s post, which criticises Muslims who are judgmental towards less observant coreligionists during Ramadan, has caused a social media fury among the country’s Muslim community. The blogger, Zahrah Perry, wrote “The Hunger Games-Ramadan Edition” after people reportedly “attempted to shame her for clubbing during the month of Ramadan”. She accused some of being “part-time religious folk” who go to the mosque in Ramadan because it’s “the latest trend”. 

While some praised Perry for expressing her thoughts, many blasted her for what they say is a disregard for people’s efforts to practice their faith. After Perry received an overwhelming response to her post, her site went down. Below is an excerpt from the blog:
