Kenyans hijack #RutoIsClean to slam politician accused of corruption
Deputy President William Ruto allegedly tried to skim $115 million from inflated project.
Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto’s alleged involvement in a corruption scandal made news on Friday, sparking outrage and a hashtag hijacking. Ruto was accused of arbitrarily inflating a $178 million project to upgrade the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital up to $293 million (Sh 28 billion), with the intention of pocketing the difference. The allegation was made by herbert Ojwang, a Nairobi businessman who says he was awarded the initial tender before Ruto took it over and inflated it.
